More Celebrity Weddings This Summer

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Not that I am a huge Hilary Duff fan, but you have to give this girl props for going from Disney child star to functioning member of society (no Lohan drama here.)

The 22 year star wed boyfriend of two years, NHLer Mike Comrie Saturday night in an intimate candle light ceremony in Santa Barbara. Of course Hilary donned a beautiful Vera Wang dress.

Not to get mushy, but even in these blurry images she looks like a beautiful Disney Princess.

Shawn Marie Rockwood, Honored for her Photography Work

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

One of our photographers, Shawn Marie, has been honing her photography skills for over 25 years, but finally worked up the confidence to enter her images into her first Professional Photography competition.shawnmarie1

I guess good things come to those who wait because Shawn Marie received the highest total scores for the year, for first time entry from the Professional Photographers of Michigan and was awarded with a full ride scholarship to Great Lakes Institute of Photography. Because of Shawn accumulative scores on her entries, she received the honor of ranking in Michigan’s top 7 Photographers.

That’s not all!  She was one of two people in Michigan who were awarded The Fuji Masterpiece Award for Wedding Photography.  She also received the Court of Honor which is awarded to the judges’ favorite in of each category in the competition.

She was very excited and honored to receive these awards.  She says it has taken her many years of attending print competitions, and awards banquets watching other photographers receive these awards, to have the guts to enter her own images. With the support and encouragement of her mentors she decided this was the year to try.  She is “proud and surprised” with the results, and she now has the competition “bug.”

She has recently entered 4 prints in the Professional Photographers of America’s National Competition, and is anxiously waiting for her results from the Judging at the end of June.

Shawn Marie believes that these photography competitions allow her to fine tune her skills and be the best she can be.  She loves seeing her improvement reflect in her wedding photography.

6 Important Wedding Reception Time Savers

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

You may be wondering how you are going to find time to fit everything in at your wedding reception. When you follow these six suggestions, it will be easy, stress-free and you’ll be able to enjoy your wedding day. The secret isn’t finding more time; it’s spending more time doing fun things: eating, drinking, laughing and dancing.

  1. Limit the number of staged group photos. Too many group pictures of the bridal party and families taken before, during and/or after dinner can seriously disrupt the timing of events. Remember…you’re the boss. Feel free to say NO to your photographer, if you’re running behind schedule and the situation bridalpartydemands it. Better yet, communicate your wishes to him BEFORE your wedding day. Like your DJ, your photographer needs your “must have” list, your “wish list” and your “do not” photograph list well in advance of the date.
  2. Limit your receiving line. If you must have a receiving line, include only the bride & groom and their parents as greeters. It isn’t necessary for guests to greet your bridesmaids and groomsmen; it will slow the line and annoy your guests.
  3. Keep moving when greeting guests table to table. This is a fantastic way to greet your guests, but don’t linger too long at each table. Offer only brief exchanges & thank you’s, and keep moving around the room.
  4. Get your bridal party on the “same page,” (parents, too). Prior to your wedding day, give members of the bridal party and your parents a timetable of reception events that clearly explains where they need to be and when. This will save you tons of aggravation with AWOL friends and relatives – and they will appreciate knowing ahead of time what is expected of them.buffet1
  5. Consider a buffet. Buffets are always faster than plated meals. A double sided buffet with two service lines represents the fastest food option for weddings.
  6. Eliminate the dollar dance. If 100 of your guests decide to pay the bride a dollar to dance with her, and she spends only 15 seconds with each of them, she will need 25 minutes to dance with all of them, not including the time required to change dance partners! Give her and everyone else a break; forget the dollar dance.

Look Beautiful in all your Wedding Photos!

Monday, December 7th, 2009

A lot of women get nervous about how they will shine in-front of the camera on their wedding day.  Have no fear though. We asked one of our top photographers to give our Metro Detroit brides some tips to looking great in all your wedding photos…

You picked the perfect photographer (a Mike Staff Productions one, no doubt), but you are still nervous about how you will shine in front of the camera.  Well, you don’t have to be a size 2 or 6 feet tall to rock out your wedding photos. Use these tips I’ve picked up over the years to look beautiful and feel confident when the camera lens is on you.

Use Makeup for Your Benefit

Since you will most likely be doing a make-up trial before your wedding day, take some pictures to see how the camera captures your smiling face.  A few tips for getting the most out of your makeup:mascara

  • Use a matte finish foundation.  This will create a flawless, shine-free base.
  • Dust a bronzer along your jaw line to blend your foundation and shadow face.
  • Highlight your cheek bones with blush. This creates angles and depth in your cheeks.
  • Use slightly darker eyeliner and bold black mascara to make your eyes pop.
  • Finish off your look with a shiny lip-gloss or a simple lipstick to accentuate your smile.

Work it Girl!

Striking a pose not only makes you feel confident, but also it is a great way to hide those little flaws.CB101841

  • Always use good posture.  By standing up straight, pulling your shoulders back, and slightly lifting your chin, you can avoid common photo busts like a double chin or a slouchy waist.
  • Many women (including myself) are not lovers of bare arms in photos, but for most brides covering them is not an options. No problem. Let one arm hang next to the body and place the other on your hip, pulled backwards. This not only elongates your arms, but also covers any imperfections on your hips and waist.
  • If you know what your good side is, flaunt it!  Tell your photographer that you prefer to be shot from a specific angle.  They will work with you, trust me!
  • The most important posing tip is… be comfortable!  If a certain pose feels too awkward, speak up.  If you feel comfortable and relaxed, your wedding images will look natural and beautiful.photography-branding-shot

Just Relax

Have you ever seen a bride who didn’t just glow on her wedding day?  I haven’t.  So, in the end, don’t worry.  If you hired a great photographer, they will capture all the beauty of your big day, including you.  You will have so many great images, you won’t have time to tag them all. :)
